A patient comes into your office for an exam. She moved away from the State for a while and now she has moved back. You feel that since it has been a really long time since you've seen her that you should be able to bill the exam as a New Patient. What length of time must lapse between patient office visits before you can bill a patient previously seen in your practice as a New Patient?

Patients that have not been seen in your office for three years can be billed as New Patients. Please keep this in mind because a New Patient exam reimburses significantly more than an Established Patient visit.
